We're rolling out a new pricing system for 2012. And it's really, really simple: the published price is the price you pay at checkout. No more processing fees or other surprises. If a race is $30.00, you'll pay $32.00, not $35.73.
On a related note, the Washington State legislature has decided to start collecting sales tax on race entry fees (9.5%), which means that prices will be going up for some races in 2012. But again, you will not have to pay the sales tax--it is all included in your entry fee. While I think it is very unfortunate that we can't pass a soda and sugar tax but can have a tax on healthy activities, BTO Multisports will continue to do everything possible to continue offering great races at reasonable prices.
Have a great fall!

For the 3rd year, the Salty's Half Marathon proves that low-frills does not mean low-fun. I've participated in this race twice, once in 2009 for the inaugural event and again this year (3rd and 2nd, respectively) and had a blast both times. The course is a simple but beautiful out and back along Alki Beach, starting and ending in front of Salty's, with the turn around point at Colman Pool in Lincoln Park. The winner gets a free brunch at Salty's, and 1st-3rd gets a fish! See above. In 2009 it was a salmon, I thin this year is a bass--perhaps the harvest was low this year?
Shamrock Run Coming to Kirkland
by Rob Butcher
Kirkland to be awash with the color green this St. Patrick’s Day! The first annual Kirkland Shamrock Run to launch Saturday, March 17, 2012
For those seeking an alternative to Seattle for St. Patrick’s Day, Kirkland is planning to bring out the Irish in you with a fun, new event: The Kirkland Shamrock Run (KSR), a 5k fun run along the beautiful shores of Lake Washington.
The KSR organizing committee is planning a 5k fun run to be held Saturday, March 17th. The race will start and finish at Marina Park with the course that swings along Lake Washington, passing through several neighborhoods along the way. Whacky costumes will be encouraged!
This event will fun-filled for the whole family. We will be seeking volunteers, sponsors and obviously loads of runners and walkers.
Please visit the Kirkland Shamrock Run Facebook page to find out more details.
The KSR is being organized by Kirkland residents and businesses including Market Neighborhood Association Chair Michelle Sailor, The Wilde Rover, Lake Washington Physical Therapy, Everyday Athlete, Banner Bank, BTO Mmultisports and Kirkland Views. Proceeds from this event will support the Summer Concert Series, 4th of July Parade and Fireworks, flowerpots, and other downtown Kirkland activities.
If the thought of heading to Seattle is too much to contemplate (not to mention the hassle of paying the new toll on the 520 bridge), relax. Kirkland is the place to be for St. Patrick’s Day.
Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 17th and come down to Kirkland and join the fun at the 2012 Shamrock Run! We’ll be sure to get your Irish eyes a smilin’.
And that’s no blarney.
What does it mean to you to be the best athlete in the world?
It's got nothing to do with times, rankings, pounds, or any number. Weenies like to focus on numbers and try to control them. Those numbers are the end product to a process. Seek to control the process, not the result! While the numbers are good indicators of progress, you can't count good habits, and that's a far better predictor of success. Being the best athlete also has nothing to do with any particular training method--anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to sell you something, guaranteed.
